‘Doel’ is an abandoned town near Antwerp. The people who lived there were forced to leave when the port was expanded. Now it is completely deserted, a ghost town where the wind always blows. One Sunday I was riding my bike to visit Doel with the scouts. In the beginning, the wind was calm. But after a while, it became stronger and it was a struggle to go on, and suddenly this piece appeared in my head. It gave me the strength to fight the wind. At the end of the piece, the wind disappears.
My name is Indra Persoons. I was born on the 20th of January 1999 in Brasschaat, Belgium. I’ve been composing since I was 10, but it became a bigger part of my life at age 15 when I started composition lessons with Bart Vanneste. During this period I composed the piece, Doel. I stated playing cello at the age of 11. I was taught by Sam Faes and Michiel Dutré. I didn’t receive an education in the arts, but I attend music school part-time at Muzarto. Now I’m want to study cello and composition at the Lemmens institute.
