Lasso vo io… (Dejected I wander…) – Fragments in music from Sannazaro’s poem Arcadia (2014)
for prepared, amplified and reverberated contralto recorder
In three musical fragments inspired to three poetic sequences taken from Jacopo Sannazaro’s Arcadia the recorder embodies the figure of the poet himself who changes his (timbric) appearance when he founds himself in a particular spiritual condition. There is an experimental presence of multiphonics and “bordone” sounds out of the recorder extension, fostered by the voice of the instrument. The popular roots are filtered through images that, like flashbacks, emerge from afar: evocations and nostalgias of a past now unrecognisable, but still present in our DNA, as a reminder of where we come from.
