Lotta Wennäkoski (b. 1970 in Helsinki) studied composition at the Sibelius Academy and got her diploma in 2000. Her main teachers have been Eero Hämeenniemi, Kaija Saariaho and Paavo Heininen. 1998-99 Wennäkoski studied with Louis Andriessen in the Netherlands.
Wennäkoski’s debut concert took place in Musica Nova Helsinki festival in 1999. Her orchestral piece Sakara was commissioned by Esa-Pekka Salonen, who also conducted the premier with Helsinki Philharmonia in 2003. Lotta Wennäkoski’s stage work N! (Woman’s love and life) was premiered in Helsinki Festival also in 2003, and has had its Danish version in Den Anden Opera in Copenhagen in 2005. The Swedish version was performed in Strindbergs Intima Teater in Stockholm in March 2006. Lotta Wennäkoski is a member in the Finnish Composers‘ Society since 1998. She is the artistic coordinator of Tampere Biennale Festival at the moment. A CD of her music, Culla d’aria, was published in 2008 by Alba Records.
